Moving
to a new home is a very stressful and difficult process, especially
if you are doing it without the help of a moving company. Packing and
moving the small items is a pain, but moving large appliances can be
extremely problematic. Use these tips to make moving your
refrigerator as easy as possible.

• Moving
  a refrigerator requires at least two people, three is ideal. Do not
  attempt to move a refrigerator by yourself, especially if there are
  stairs involved.
• Your
  refrigerator should be completely defrosted before you attempt to
  move it. To defrost it: remove all food, unplug it from the wall,
  and let it sit overnight.
• Before
  loading the refrigerator onto a dolly, tie the doors shut with ropes
  or bungee cords so they don’t swing open during the move.
• If
  you have to move your refrigerator down stairs, secure it to a dolly
  with moving straps to prevent it from falling.
• When
  you get the refrigerator to the moving truck, make sure to keep it
  upright throughout the duration of its travel. Storing it on its
  side will cause the oil from the compressor to mix with the coolant.
• When
  your refrigerator is moved into its new home, plug it in for 24
  hours before placing food in it.
